Some people think that the use of animal for experimentation is cruel.
Other think it is good for the development of science. Discuss the two sides and
give your opinion.

　　我們常說動物(wu)是人(ren)(ren)類的(de)朋友(you)，然(ran)而(er)，現實中，我們人(ren)(ren)類卻往往表現得非常自私(si)，常為一(yi)己之利而(er)去出賣、折磨(mo)，甚至(zhi)犧(xi)牲自己朋友(you)的(de)生命。動物(wu)試(shi)驗便是我們這種自私(si)行(xing)為的(de)表現之一(yi)。

　　We often say that animals are our best friends. However, in real life, we
human beings are often very selfish. Sometimes, we often betray this friendship
by torturing and even sacrificing the lives of our “friends” for certain selfish
reasons. Vivisection, or animal testing, is one of the selfish behaviors that we
frequently show.

　　首先，我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)想說，動(dong)物和我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)人類一(yi)樣是有感覺(jue)、有思想、有尊嚴(yan)的(de)。無論是科學研究還是生活經驗都早已(yi)向我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)證實了這(zhe)一(yi)點。刀割(ge)破了我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)身上的(de)任(ren)何一(yi)個地方，我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)會(hui)感到劇烈(lie)的(de)疼痛;面對強加于我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)的(de)死(si)亡，我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)會(hui)感到驚恐萬狀;被他人無端地羞辱，我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)會(hui)痛不欲生。我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)何曾想到：當(dang)我(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)(wo)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)這(zhe)樣對待其它(ta)動(dong)物時，它(ta)們(men)(men)(men)(men)(men)也是同樣的(de)感覺(jue)呀(ya)。

　　First of all, I’d like to say that animals have feelings, thoughts and
dignity like men. Both scientific researches and life experience have long
proved these to us. A knife cut on any part of our body would incur sharp pain.
Facing death that is imposed on us, we would be terrified out of our wits. Being
humiliated for no justified reason, we would think of death. When have we ever
realized that animals have the same feeling as they are treated the same
way?

　　有(you)(you)(you)人(ren)會說(shuo)(shuo)了：沒有(you)(you)(you)動物試驗，就(jiu)不會有(you)(you)(you)眾多(duo)的(de)科學發(fa)現(xian)(xian)。是(shi)(shi)的(de)，聽起來很有(you)(you)(you)道(dao)理。不錯，很多(duo)科學發(fa)現(xian)(xian)就(jiu)是(shi)(shi)通過動物試驗取得的(de)。但是(shi)(shi)，誰(shui)敢說(shuo)(shuo)：沒有(you)(you)(you)動物試驗，世界(jie)就(jiu)停止進步(bu)了?恐怕沒有(you)(you)(you)人(ren)會這么說(shuo)(shuo)，因為社(she)會總在進步(bu)的(de)。許多(duo)科學的(de)發(fa)現(xian)(xian)只是(shi)(shi)個時間早晚的(de)問題。

　　Some people may say, without vivisection, there would not have had so many
scientific discoveries. Yes, it sounds all reasonable. Yes, many a scientific
finding was achieved by animal experimentation. But, who dare say that without
vivisection, the world would stop moving forward? I’m afraid no one dares say
this, for human society will always keep moving forward and many scientific
findings are simply a matter of time.

　　誠然，并非(fei)所(suo)有(you)的(de)(de)動(dong)物試驗都是殘酷的(de)(de)。某些簡單、無痛苦的(de)(de)試驗可以既造福人(ren)(ren)類，也造福動(dong)物世界(jie)。例如對某些瀕(bin)危物種的(de)(de)繁育試驗就可以使(shi)該動(dong)物種群(qun)再度興旺起來，從而可以與我(wo)們人(ren)(ren)類一起分享(xiang)這(zhe)個美好的(de)(de)世界(jie)。這(zhe)種試驗應(ying)該受到鼓勵。

　　Admittedly, not all animal experimentations are cruel. Some simple and
pain-free experiments can benefit both mankind and other animals. For instance,
some efforts which aim at increasing the group number of some endangered species
can provide opportunities for them to thrive again on the earth so that they can
share with mankind this beautiful world. Such kind of experiments should be
encouraged.

　　我們無(wu)(wu)法改變過去，我們只擁有現在(zai)和將來。過去的(de)(de)已經過去了，包括那些為人類科技進步而遭(zao)受(shou)了無(wu)(wu)盡痛苦甚(shen)至犧牲了寶貴(gui)生(sheng)命的(de)(de)動(dong)物(wu)們。我們需要謹記的(de)(de)一點是：當我們在(zai)考(kao)慮人類自身(shen)利益的(de)(de)時候，也(ye)替(ti)其它動(dong)物(wu)們想(xiang)一想(xiang)。

　　We can not change the past. We only have the present and the future. What
is gone is gone, including those animals that had suffered great pains and even
sacrificed their precious lives for the scientific and technological progress of
mankind. However, we should bear in mind that while we are thinking about our
own benefits, we should also have other animals in mind.
