1.expect
(1)vt., vi. 預(yu)計，預(yu)料：
We expect a cold winter this year.
我(wo)們預計今年冬天會冷。
Jim has failed in mathematics as his teacher expected.
正如他老(lao)師所預料的那(nei)樣，吉姆(mu)數學考試沒及格。
(2)vt. 等待，期待，盼望(wang)：
I'm expecting a letter from Jimmy.
我在等待吉米(mi)的一封信。
They are expecting guests tonight.
今晚有人(ren)要去他們那里(li)作客。
expect所表示(shi)的(de)等(deng)待一般暗含著根據某些信(xin)息或規律(lv)而作(zuo)出相應反應的(de)意(yi)思(si)，而wait(for)主要指“等(deng)待”這個動作(zuo)本身：
He waited for her for more than an hour, but she did not come.
他等了(le)她(ta)一個多小(xiao)時，但她(ta)沒(mei)來。
Wait a minute, please.
請等一下。
(3)vt. 認為，猜想(xiang)(一般用(yong)于口(kou)語)：
I expect you've heard the news.
我想(xiang)你已經聽到這個消(xiao)息了。
2.steal
(1)vt. vi. 偷(tou)盜，行竊：
Someone has stolen my bike.
有人把我(wo)的自行車偷走了。
John never steals.
約翰從(cong)不偷東西。
(2)vt. 巧(qiao)妙地占有，偷(tou)偷(tou)地弄到手：
He has stolen away Mary's heart.
他已(yi)贏得(de)瑪麗的芳心。
(3)vi. 偷(tou)偷(tou)地行動，悄(qiao)悄(qiao)靠近：
He stole into the room.
他悄悄地進了(le)房間。

1.enter
(1)vt.,vi. 進(jin)入：
Joe entered the room quietly.

Always knock on the door before you enter.
進入(ru)前要先敲門(men)。
(2)vt.,vi. 參加(jia)，加(jia)入：
We've entered into an agreement.
我(wo)們已達成(cheng)一(yi)項協(xie)議。
He soon entered their conversation.
他很快便加入了他們的(de)談話。
(3)enter for是“報名參加”的意思(si)：
She entered (her name/ herself) for the mathematics competition.
她報(bao)名參(can)加(jia)數學競賽。

2.every
構成的合成詞
every和one, body, thing可以構成復(fu)合不定代詞(ci)everyone, everybody和everything。它(ta)們一般都寫成一個詞(ci)。everyone和everybody一般可以替(ti)換(huan)使(shi)用，后(hou)面(mian)的代詞(ci)既可以用單數，也 可以用復(fu)數，但它(ta)們本身(shen)均被視(shi)為單數：
Everyone/ Everybody knows what he has to do.
每一個人都知道自己(ji)必須做什么。
Everyone/ Everybody knows what they have to do.
每個人都知道自(zi)己必須做(zuo)什么。
Everything is going well.
一切都很順利。
與every一樣可以構成(cheng)這(zhe)類合成(cheng)詞(ci)的單(dan)詞(ci)還有some, any和no。

1.gather
(1)vt. 使集攏，集合，召集：
He gathered a large crowd of people round him.
他在自(zi)己周圍聚集了一大群(qun)人。
(2)vt. 收集，采(cai)集，收(莊稼(jia)等(deng))：
The children are out in the field gathering flowers.
孩子們在外面(mian)地里采花。
It has taken me a lifetime to gather all these books.
收(shou)集所有這(zhe)些書花了我一(yi)輩子的時(shi)間。
(3)vi. 集攏，聚集，集合(he)：
They gathered under the Town Hall clock.
他們聚集(ji)在市政廳的大鐘(zhong)下面(mian)。
2. refuse
(1)vt. 拒絕(接受、服從等)：
She refused the gift.
她拒絕接受這份禮(li)物。
(2)vt. 拒不，不肯，不愿：
Mary refused to tell her age.
瑪麗不愿說出(chu)自己的年齡。
John refused to change his mind.
約翰拒不改變主意。
(3)vi. 拒絕(jue)，不接受：
I offered to pay him for his help, but he refused.
對于他的幫助我提出給他報酬，但他拒絕了。
